OBELIX Life has been quite fun since I moved to the Boston area. My Dad takes me for walks in the woods & my Mom takes me to the beach! On the days that they both work all day, I get to go to daycare where I get to play all day with other dogs, people, and a little girl (I think I'm her favorite because she says I'm "puffy"). Also, we have gone camping a few times and I do great job guarding the tent. Thanks for taking such great care of me before I went off to my forever home...I don't know how my parents managed to live without me! ~ Obelix (formerly "Murray").

FOXY We adopted Foxy from the Sullivan County SPCA back in September 2007. She has been a complete joy and a fabulous addition to our family. She's very smart, friendly, loves other dogs and the neighbors as well. After hearing of her past...being abandoned and abused , she will be loved in this household. She's a happy dog ( as long as we keep a huge supply of MilkBone dog biscuits on hand ). Thanks Sullivan County SPCA for our new addition to the family. ~ Mike and Kathy

KELLER Keller came to us an old (10 years or so) small golden retriever mix who came to the shelter after her owners were evicted from their home and left her behind. She was the saddest little thing when she came to us and we really wondered if we would be able to find a home for her. Her toenails were so long that she could barely walk. She had cataracts in both eyes and was partly deaf but we saw some spunk and life left in her. After being with us for about six weeks she caught an upstate woman's eye on the internet and after many emails and a few visits Keller went home! We've since learned that she can be found sleeping in her new dog bed about 23 hours a day. Keller found her forever home!

POOKIE Pookie came to us as a tiny kitten. She had what we thought was chronic eye infections because her eyes were always full of pus. Upon closer look, we found out that she suffered from entropion, a condition where the eyelashes grow in toward the eyeball instead of out , therefore constantly irritating the eye ball. She could barely open her eyes! Despite of her condition or maybe because of it, Pookie was always such a happy and sweet creature! The cost of her surgery was estimated at $300 which we could not afford. A woman noticed her on the internet and started emailing all of her friends who emailed all of her friends and so on. And so became The Pookie Fund. Meanwhile a past adopter of ours also noticed Pookie's misery and offered to pay for the whole thing! She made arrangements with her vet and within a few days Pookie's surgery was performed. She came through with flying colors and one of the vet's technicians fell in love with her and ended up adopting her on the spot. It was, so to speak...love at first sight! PS. So what happened to the rest of the money from The Pookie Fund, you ask? It was applied to Gertie, another animal in need!

GERTIE Gertie is a 5 year old long haired Rottweiler who came to us as a result of a cruelty situation. She came in along with 5 other dogs, 3 cats, 1 horse, 1 miniature horse, 1 goat ,1 turtle and some fish. Some time after her arrival she was diagnosed with mammary cancer as well as several other skin tumors. Gertie was so friendly and loved everyone she met. After extensive surgery followed by severe complications, Gertie was finally out of the woods. During her ordeal she worked her way into the heart of a former employee and after being adopted she now lives the good life surrounded by love and children.

KATIE Katie, a German Shorthair Pointer, came to the shelter as a puppy with her mom and four brothers and sisters after her previous owner could no longer take care of them. As you can see by the pictures, she is now loved by her new family! ( Especially her big brother Bailey, who she loves to lounge on the sofa with! ) She is know 12 weeks old and her new family says that she's doing great! More good news...all of Katie's brothers and sisters, as well as her mom, Autumn, have gone home with new families as well!

KAY & KAISER Kay and Kaiser both arrived at the shelter together as strays. Kay is about 10 years old and Kaiser was a little younger at 7 years. When their new owner Cindy adopted Kaiser, she later felt so bad about leaving Kay behind that she came back to get her a few days later! So now Kay and Kaiser are together forever in their loving new home!

BRINDY & HOPE, New Windsor NY We saw Abba (Brindy) on your website and fell in love with her. We made several trips to visit her and brought her home in March. At first there was an adjustment period with our cats. After the first month they are now the best of friends. She is the protector of her 3 cats (Simon, Gwen and Inky) and our bichon frise (Lacey). There was something missing in her life though. As happy as she was we could see she needed something else. She had come to the shelter with her sister Atlantis and I believe she missed not having another boxer to play with. She seemed to know that she couldn’t play with the cats and Lacey roughly. I am happy to say that in September we adopted another boxer that was in need of a great home. In the picture Brindy is on the left and our newbie Hope is on the right. Everyone gets along great and we are so happy. ~ Thanks Geri P.

CODY, Chester NY My name is Katerina and I adopted Cody a mutt , in August 2009. From the day we met I just knew he was going to have a loving forever home with me in Chester, NY. He was only a year when I adopted him and had been in a shelter in Georgia as a pup. Since the day he came home to the 50 acre farm he's been the best addition to the family. Cody is incredibly intelligent, sweet, and a happy go lucky little boy. He has his jobs on the farm such as chasing the geese off the property and we've really come to enjoy rollerblading together. He loves to cuddle and occasionally I've caught him sleep walking and barking in his sleep. He's just the best and I couldn't have asked for better. I'm so thankful for the Sullivan County SPCA for rescuing my little boy from GA. He's Happy Healthy and Brings smiles to everyone's face around the farm. ~ Love Katerina & Cody

ROCKY Rocky is a handsome example of a success story from our Seniors for Seniors program. When 85-year old Estelle decided to adopt a new friend, she arrived at the shelter looking for a small sized dog. But Rocky had something different in mind! Estelle immediately noticed the quiet, 10-year old German Sheppard and wondered to herself "who will adopt this beautiful old dog?". Estelle and Rocky were meant to be. Within the first day home, Estelle knew she had found the perfect companion when, after finishing their first dinner together, Rocky quietly looked at her as if to say "thank you" from the bottom of his heart. Since then, Rocky has become a gentle and loving companion and curls up to sleep next to peacefully next to Estelle every night. "I could not have made a better choice." Estelle has told us. We're sure Rocky agrees!

SPYDER Little 5 week old Spyder and her littermates were rescued after having been found living in a wall. Her brothers and sisters had all been adopted except for Spyder. It seemed that her front legs had atrophied while she was at the bottom of the pile of kitties in the wall, so she had difficulty walking. Well, the rest is history, we took one look at this little kitty and home she came with us and has learned to get around just fine! She has even adopted our dog, Ariel, (originally Lacy) as her momma. The funny part is that we adopted Ariel from the shelter after we noticed her when we went together to visit Spyder! So due to little Spyder, Ariel now has a permanent , loving home as well. These new additions have brought a lot of love and laughter to our household. We that feel through this event as well as others that we have witnessed that people should not pass up loving companions who are handicapped. It’s been our pleasant discovery over the years to discover that some of the most loving, funny and compassionate creatures we’ve known were those that were the most in need of love and friendship. They magnify it back tenfold! ~ Helen and Jim Caruso

BLAZE Some of you may remember Blaze from the news stories she was featured in during the Summer of 2006. Her unfortunate start with us came when she was found having recently given birth, and left tied to a tree to die in the woods. She was in pitiful condition, but after some TLC she was soon back to perfect health and ready for a forever family. But it would be a long wait for Blaze...she spent over 10 months at the shelter! Her lucky day came when her new family spotted her at the shelter and said "that's the one!" Her family reports that she's remembered her basic commands and gets to run a play by the river, cuddle with her Mom & Dad, and chew on all her new toys. She even celebrated Easter dinner with the family! Blaze will always have a special place in our hearts here at the shelter, and she truly is a wonderful success story!

HARLEY We adopted Harley after our Golden Retriever of 12 years passed away. Harley is the perfect fit for our family. My wife found her on your website. We wanted another Golden, but also wanted to adopt from a shelter. My wife likes the darker color Goldens, so Harley seemed like the perfect dog for us and she is. We are very happy with her and she is very happy with us. She loves playing in the yard and going for long walks. She also shows lots of affection to our one year old son.

LEGO, Montgomery NY I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know that I love my new home and family in Montgomery, NY. I've been here for about three weeks; my master, Nick, adopted me on Christmas Eve 2008. I'm so happy to be in a loving environment; he says I'm the best thing to come along in a long time. Besides my master, I have a new grandmother, an uncle, an aunt, and lots of cousins who all love to play with me. I also have a new friend, Tonka, a bull mastiff that lives on the hill. He hasn't quite figured me out yet, but he's very tolerant and is showing me the ropes!
I recently went to the veterinarian, and he said I'm in tip-top shape, growing bigger and stronger each day. It's primarily due to the wonderful treatment I received while at SC SPCA; therefore, I want to thank everyone up there for taking really good care of me while I was with you, and above all, for providing me with a safe place. I truly do love where I am today, and it's because of all of you.

LADY, Highland Lakes NJ We adopted our pitbull "Lady" from your shelter in March of 2003. She's a special furry bundle of love! Our children are growing up with her, and we can't imagine our lives without this precious girl! In the summer, she loves to lounge around on the deck, and in the winter, she relaxes in front of the fireplace. She's spoiled rotten and has the run of the entire house. She's gotten a bit grey in the face over the years, but she still acts like a big puppy love-bug. We love our girl and we're so glad we adopted her......she's enriched our lives more than anyone will ever know! The Mayer Family

CODY & MISTY, Liberty NY Cody and Misty want you to know that you did a wonderful job placing them in a very good home. They are so happy! Cody loves to dig holes in the ground, play with all his new toys (he had to learn how to play) and wrestle with his little Gertie. He is so trusting and cuddly. He has come a long way since his first day home. He barks a special thanks to the person who rescued him from his previous situation. Misty loves to sit in the window and watch the bird feeder and cuddle up on the bed at night. She is very calm, playful and very tolerant of two little dachshunds! Gertrude loves her new playmate and they both enjoy their 1 ½ mile walk each day. Gertrude has lost a pound and Cody has gained a much needed pound. They balance each other out so well. They rough house together and love sleeping in the big bed!. We are so happy with all of our pets!
